Our School

William O. Schaefer Elementary School is the home to the district's youngest students. We provide young learners in Pre-K (one class of 18 students), Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 with a warm, nurturing environment in which to grow, learn and build a strong foundation for school and for life.

WOS offers a comprehensive program that focuses on the understanding of concepts and the development of skills. Our programs encourage children to think, explore, question and develop an appreciation for the world we live in. Learning is child-centered and hands-on. 

Social skills are developed in the classroom and enhanced through programs developed by our school psychologists and school counselor. English as a New Language (ENL) services are provided for identified students. Early intervention and related services for students are provided through reading specialists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, math teachers, school psychologists and the school counselor. 

We believe in providing our students with a robust educational program that is enhanced by extracurricular activities and opportunities. WOS has a collaboration with the Stage Left Theatre; our second grade students work with a director to learn about storytelling and elements of acting to put on a play at the end of the year. Our wonderful assembly program provides students with opportunities to experience the arts and science in fun and engaging ways. Enrichment opportunities are offered for students outside of the school day and students may participate in leadership roles in school. We believe in a strong home-school connection and provide opportunities for our families to come to school events as well as curriculum nights that allow families to experience the learning happening in the classroom.
